Hello and welcome to my new collection!
Welcome to my new collection! I’m so excited to share these nine special pieces with you. You’ll find six shadow boxes, a 2D & 3D climbing rose study, and two new glass cloche displays… every detail hand crafted with the utmost care and attention. The full collection with all the details, extra images (and even videos!) may be viewed in the shop listings - for convenience I’ve got links below to each category. I hope you enjoy the Neighborhood Flowers Collection! If you have any questions or comments about these pieces, feel free to contact me.
Neighborhood Flowers - shadow boxes
Over the past couple of socially-distant months, one of the things that I looked forward to every day was to walk around and visit the neighborhood flowers. I couldn't visit with friends, but I could walk past my favorite flower patches and watch them bud and bloom as the weather gradually got warmer. Cherry Blossoms, Iris, Clematis, Peonies, Poppies and Roses have all given many moments of inspiration through March, April and May. These moments of inspiration have turned into full fledged paper art creations, all hand painted with watercolor and crafted petal by petal with German and Italian crepe papers. I'm so excited to show you these new pieces, and hope that you also feel some joyful inspiration from these beauties! Six new shadow boxes in this collection are ready for new homes and are waiting to be discovered!
Neighborhood Flowers - limited edition Red climbing rose paper sculpture and print bundle
I’m also very excited to launch, as part of this collection, a limited edition flower and print with a portion of proceeds to be donated to support BIPOC artists in need. This very special limited edition bundle - only 10 available - contains a signed archival print of my original Red Climbing Rose watercolor painting and a hand made paper sculpture of the Red Climbing Rose in a small bud vase.
For each sale of this bundle, I will donate $20 to Arts Leaders of Color Emergency Fund. This fund supports BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) artists and arts administrators in the US who are impacted by COVID-19 through $200 microgrants. My goal is to raise $200 to fully fund one of these microgrants to help a fellow creative in need.
Neighborhood Flowers - Glass cloche displays
Two beautiful botanical sculptures with a glass cloche dome round out the collection this spring. These flowers are made to be admired from all angles, and are perfectly framed by a removable glass cover. Ready to be displayed on your favorite shelf, table, or curiosity cabinet!
A behind the scenes look at making a shadow box
A lot goes in to getting the color, texture, and shape just right in these complex sculptures: mixing and applying watercolor paint to the petals, hand cutting and shaping each part of the flower, and then finally putting all of the pieces together into the final form. It's not a quick and easy process, but that's part of what I love about it - taking my time, getting inspired, diving deep into each detail.
Here’s a peek at one of the pieces - a Coral Charm Peony crafted with hand painted German doublette crepe paper. Are you curious to learn how I create one of these paper sculptures? Here’s a quick video showing an overview of my process of painting, shaping and building the flower.
